Student killed by gunman on first day back from summer vacation

UPDATE: The 18-year-old was attacked at a technical school in Orotina. The shooter shot himself, and died Tuesday at Hospital Mexico.
A teenager shot and killed an 18-year-old student at a school before shooting himself on Monday, according to police.
Juan Pablo Salazar was shot at 9:10 a.m. at the Colegio Ricardo Castro in Orotina, a technical high school school about 60 kilometers west of San José, according to the daily La Nación. The alleged 17-year-old assailant later shot himself in the right temple. The shooter was taken to a nearby hospital by Red Cross relief workers. He was only identified by the last name Villegas because he is a minor. He was not a student of the school, authorities said.
Authorities at Hospital Mexico confirmed Villegas' death Tuesday morning due to a brain hemorrhage.
The student was shot in the school's computer room on the first day of classes after a two week summer break. Some students said the shooter entered the room and made everyone leave except the victim.
Education Minister Leonardo Garnier said via Twitter that the event was a tragedy but there is not enough information out yet to comment further on the event.
The attack comes one year after a 17-year-old student killed a principal at a private school in Heredia, north of San José.

ResponderEliminarI realized of this incident a few weeks ago. In national newspapers, it is said that a young man killed his classmate and later shot himself. It is believed that the reason of this event was primarily in loving. It supposed that the two people, the victim and the assailant maintained a relationship. However, the person who died ended the relationship because it considered himself as a bisexual, and he wanted to have a romantic female partner. The shooter did not accept this situation, because he continued in love and jealously, killed him to avoid pain. So, I understand the position of killer, but I also believe that there are many ways to solve these problems and the solution he took was extreme. The Ministry of Education, together with the Ministry of Security, they must devise a plan to control weapons and prevent the students carry them.
ResponderEliminarIn addition, psychologists should be introduced in highschools, for taking care of young people and give reasonable solutions and advices when it is presented some of these cases.
Really, nowadays, I have not felt unsafe at highschool, and with the help of God I hope I never have a reason to feel threatened or in danger.
I heard about this tragedy a few days ago and I believe that this event show the insecurity in a lot of school in Costa Rica and displays that we are not sure in no time, even when we are in school. I also believe that the MEP is not doing anything to resolve the situation of insecurity in schools. The MEP should take precautions in all schools both public and private, some warnings might be that not all people can enter to institutions or to keep tabs on students who have been found carrying weapons or drugs, and there are many more precautions. There are still many reasons why students have to feel unsecure at school and every day there are to feel more insecure for the events that happen in schools and because some people do not care enough when this events happen.
ResponderEliminarI read this notice a two or three weeks ago; I surprised because one student decide to eliminated at partner to have a relationship, only at partner have new relationship with a girl. Because he decided to share with another person. He disagrees in this idea and have lawsuit about love problems, because they were gays. I supposed the students to died was bisexual and relationship with both sex in difference moments around the day. Nobody had notice about the student likes. If I were the MEP I planning according the Ministry of Security to visit all the high school around the country and make a reunions with parents of the students, and make polls to know how much families have guns in their homes, and planning check the backpack and lockers to search gums every day. In the high school I never had insecure because the high school taught how to resolve conflicts peacefully fitness and I protection with GOD all the day in anywhere.
ResponderEliminarI feel it is sad this fact is that there is too much insecurity in the country, so many bad thoughts and desires that exist in Costa Rica that a person comes to kill another and killed himself, just out of spite and anger.
ResponderEliminarI feel that the measures of MEP, and the institution are bad about the safety of young people at school, i think that this could have been avoided had reviewed the man would have realized that he was armed and this murder do not happened.
*I think you can comply with increased security measures, such as knowing who enters and leaves the institution, verify that if really is a relative or acquaintance. with these small precautions prevent many accidents.
*In my case, I always feel safe in my institution.
I do not read the notice , because i only read and see the sport news , but in my house all my family talk about this tragedic notice . I think that this is a extremely bad desicion for kill a friend that love a girl . I know that the students are gays and he love each other . But if he realy loves to his exboyfriend , he will accept the desision to the other men. If i be from mep i will check all students for have more security . I my case , in my high school i feel very security , becuse all the students have a good values .
ResponderEliminarFor all of us young people has been very impressive this news. Society has changed in the past no such events occurred dimension. But is said to know the reasons for what happened, I think the young man had any reason to do so, but we must decide first of all that is more correct in our lives. Everyone is entitled to second chance to correct our evil deeds. This guy doesn’t have a second change, because he decides to die, maybe he thought that he have to pay for the death of the student. ResponderEliminarThis notice is very disturbed because is not normal that in a high school someone get in into it and kill a student after vacations and nobody ask him what he wants to do in that high school, if they would ask maybe this tragic event would no happen.
ResponderEliminarThe Ministry of Education has to take a special treatment faced with this situation, because it can happen more often in all institutions in our country. And the precautions that have to be taken is monitoring the entrance of students or visitants in the high school and if someone is weird or nervous talk to him or her.
I always feel safe in my high school, in think that is too protected and secure than others. And I hope that this situation never happen.
My opinion about every violence event in costa rica is more less increases in the highschools because it depend the education the his students in his houses and his teaches in the highschools or schools its very important for his lifes and help his minds because now the adolescents only believe that the violence is the solution also now you can see students are killer the violence problems.
ResponderEliminarI think about MEP´s should collaborate and that is problem the everybody, should collaborate too in the education in the people and make the control plan in the highschool and the schools for avoid death the people.
In my highschool is very safe, the education is very good by this razon is stranger see violence problems in his students and i wish the better future paz in his lifes because not have enough love the his kin
In my opinion, I think that lately was presented many problems of violence inside and outside of country, this causes big trauma or reflection in others persons, to prevent and avoid.
ResponderEliminarThe MEP done prevention norms but other thing is that the schools meet with them (they don’t do). Some precautions: have a security guard, he should revise the persons that enter the school, revise their objects, ID document and the motive of the visit. This could reduce the entry of criminals and persons with intention of make damage. In my school I never feel unsafe, the security ever is present.
In my opinion is not wellwhat the boy did because he was endangering the life of another human god gave us life and only god can take it

recently saw this sad news on television, my opinion on this, is that it is indeed a very sad fact, rarely seen in our country, and failing to control anger and to the point of resorting to violence . Young currently we see a large percentage of violence, and little control over this. in colleges and schools, I personally think that there is very little security. since no measures are taken to prevent these events. There is not enough information on the proper use of a weapon and keep under control our anger, and not have to get to the point of resorting to violence.

In my opinion this is a sad fact that has been part of our reality and it's alarming to society, because people act violently to any problem damaging and causing problems for society, regardless of place or time in Costa Rica recent years has been a country of great violence.
ResponderEliminarThe MEP so far unfortunately are taking matters into preventing such accidents as they are quite concerned about recent killings in institutions, have been using security measures such as guards more prepared and should pay more attention being students as also provide psychological support to enable them to prevent something happening while unwanted.
I've never felt unsafe in my school is quite strict and if you take enough measures to avoid any misfortune.
Definitely the country should do something about it that is not possible to give this kind of misery to an institution.

When I read this news I was shocked because is unbelievable that how people so young like Villegas have access to have a weapon in a so early age, also of the psychological problems that he had to have to take that violent and extreme decision because is so sad that persons with a long road in front of them die like this way.
ResponderEliminarI think that the MEP isn’t doing a correct work about the security in the schools because if a person that wasn’t a student of this high school, enter without be checking for anyone, the MEP should visit every school of the country to check the security measures of each one to avoid this problem.
Fortunately in the college wasn’t happen any situation so hard like this one, that’s why I feel secure in the high school but I hope never be in a situation like this.

I think it is a really sad history and also an amazing tragedy. It`s very sad to see how many young people are doing awful things and it`s also very sad to know that must of these things are influenced by bad companies. Knowing these things makes me feel worry because we are considered a peaceful country and nowadays we are watching totally the opposite, so where is the peace that had identified us??
ResponderEliminarI think MEP should improve security in the institutions maybe doing an useful plan with the Ministry of Security so in this way the students of dangerous institutions may feel more rewarded and also the people that go to institutions to make these atrocities couldn’t commit them.

All know the true; Costa Rica is turning in an insecure place. If you need my opinion, I’m going to say you: What happened with us?! Recently, student of Costa Rica made acts like in the notice, but I think that the external violence influence in our culture. The MEP is one from another corrupted institutes in the country or is only very slow in their actions, they need to move quickly! The people not understand that the human is a give, because of this we need precautions to take, identify all the students, and improve the infrastructure are two of many solutions that we can take for the security of all the schools, high schools, universities… etc. In many years, I never had a reason to feel me insecure. When you was good with all, all body are good with you. In that case, be a good person, ok? ;D
ResponderEliminarThe leading event unfortunate go through these problems with solutions for problems and disagreements between them without, this may have been meaningless if the adolescents had spoken and understood the dialogue. It is very important that institutions have the strict order or security of persons entering or leaving the institucion. Its very important to the institution have the correct controle and segurity. it s very important to the institution have the correct controle and segurity. We as students feel the scare for the situation that we live in this moments .I hope to many people understand the importance that we need in this moments and in this cases to violence.
ResponderEliminar1) I think that this had not happened, if there is a good security system in the college of Orotina, and said the director of our school today, for that you are implementing new security measures to prevent such events do not happen at other institutions. Since problems like drugs or even love, are the causes of these murders, like almost a year in the College of Montebello, which was only a personal problem and other similar cases in schools in the country.
ResponderEliminar2) The MEP has very little attention on these things, because they only care about public institutions and this case many of these situations have occurred in private schools, where the same institution has to ensure the safety of students. A mandatory rule in these schools is that they must be careful with the people who enter them, because often there is no knowledge about what to do there.
3) I have never felt unsafe in my school, since there is a very good security system and have taken new security measures and also I have to watch the relationships between friends, that I have outside of school, never to something happens to me as the young of the college in Orotina.
This news was especially impressed many young people. I think it's unfortunate that a person with jealousy may reach such a point, things can be fix it up to look for other solutions, people are accustomed to resort to violence but that does not fix anything and the solution took the aggressor was extreme.
ResponderEliminarRegarding the safety measures that must take the MEP should be clear and good, such as gun control in schools, I feel very sad that people act up when they realize that something unfortunate happened, as in this situation, but never is too late to take precautions, schools should be more careful with people that are allowed to enter and must implement more safety.
I have not felt unsafe in my school and I hope that situations like this do not happen again.

I heard about it on the news and I was very surprised. I think now days anybody is safe. In my opinion this boy was very depressed and frustrated and had not support and that’s why he did what he did. MEP should have more security to the students on high schools and schools. Today we can see 2 tragedies (the one of the principal and this of the two boys) that must have to be an alarm for the MEP so they can put more attention of the security of students and even teacher and workers in schools. One advice can be that every school and high school should have a police outside watching who is and who isn´t part of the school. Sometimes I think that we are not safe if we don´t know who is goes to the high school planning to do an attack.
